Every couple has their story of how they got together. While many may sound similar each one has its own unique twist that is special to the couple. A London couple who have been neighbors for several years came together under unusual circumstances. Tanya Gatehouse and Stephen Voller first met because of the antics of her cat Georgina.
Tanya and her son Nikolas adopted Georgina from the animal charity Mayhew in 2015. Georgina quickly became a part of the family. She is a black and white cat who loves cuddling and chasing birds. She does not, however, have the best climbing skills.
Georgina decided to go exploring one day, chased a bird, and ended up in Stephen’s chimney. According to Tanya a friend of hers attempted to climb up and rescue Georgina, but unfortunately, they lost their footing and fell through the garage. Tanya tried to pay for the damage, but Stephen refused any money for it. She settled for offering him a meal as a thank you for his help.
This was just the beginning of Georgina’s antics and plan to get the two together. The following week Georgina got the adventure bug again and got stuck in a tree in Tanya’s garden. Twice. It seems Georgina has a knack for climbing up things, but not climbing down. Or she just had a sneaky plan up her sleeve. Stephen kindly got out his climbing gear and was able to get Miss Georgina down. He then asked Tanya out for dinner, and they went to a pub named The George. This all happened in April 2016, and the couple was together almost a year when Stephen proposed in January 2017 to a resounding yes. Their wedding will be this month.
Of course, Georgina has to be a part of the whole day because she is responsible for the two even really meeting. They have a model of Georgie on their wedding cake to remind them of who orchestrated the meeting.
It’s amazing what can bring two people together. Tanya and Stephen, despite being neighbors, may have never met if it weren’t for the adventures of Tanya’s mischievous cat. It makes you think to be more aware of your situation and surroundings because you never know what’s around the corner or what might lead you to your person.
